About Foxfire Sailing
Sail aboard the Airlia

"It is only right to say, though, that to insure a reasonable measure of success, experience should sail with the ship. But in order to be a successful navigator or sailor it is not necessary to hang a tar-bucket about one's neck. On the other hand, much thought concerning the brass buttons one should wear adds nothing to the safety of the ship." From Joshua Slocum (who sailed from Martha's Vineyard in the early part of the 1900's and was the first man to sail single handed around the world)

Foxfire Marine Consulting, LLC, is owned by Virginia Jones who is the heart and soul of Foxfire - a consulting firm located on Martha's Vineyard. For 10 years Ginny was Secretary and researcher at the du Pont Preservation Shipyard, Mystic Seaport Museum in Connecticut. After moving back home to Martha's Vineyard in 1985 she worked for Gannon & Benjamin Marine Railway, Inc. in Vineyard Haven (designers and builders of fine wooden yachts) from 1985 until leaving to go sailing in 2003. In 2004 she sailed from the Vineyard to the Azores, Ireland, Scotland and England. On previous passages she has sailed back and forth numerous times between New England and the Caribbean, from Hawaii to Port Townsend, Washington and Port Townsend to San Diego, as well as in the North Sea and around the British Isles. Ginny was recently elected member of the Ocean Cruising Club and has been an affiliate member of the National Association of Marine Surveyors for 15 years. As well as her interest in boats and sailing Ginny is a life long advocate of the natural world, an avid reader and an accomplished sea cook.
